Giuseppe Nalin




After obtaining a diploma in oboe at the Florence Conservatory in 1979, he initially devoted his attention to the repertoire of the 20th century, founding the “Alban Quintet” wind quintet. With this group, he has given more than a-hundred concerts and recorded two CDs for “Ariston Music” (ARCLD/32), since then working as modern oboist with several orchestras and chamber-ensembles.

In 1986, he applied himself to the study of baroque and classical oboe, in which he specialised with P. Dombrecht in Antwerp (Belgium) and A. Bernardini in Venice (Fondazione Cini).

In the same period, he founded the baroque ensemble “Sans Souci”, a group that plays on original instruments.

With “Sans Souci”, he has received critical international acclaim, to date having recorded 8 CDs for “Dynamic” (all first world recordings: CDS 106, 118, 123, 130, 139, 146, 166, 201, 270), of composers of the Baroque and Classical eras (Telemann, Caldara, Boccherini, Lotti, Mancini, Albinoni, Torri, Lignani, Fasch, Baron).

His discography includes collaboration with several orchestras, such as: “Accademia Bach” (two CDs for “Dynamic”, Vivaldi’s “Gloria e Imeneo” and Fasch’s “Concerti per oboe”, CDS 125, CDS 129); “I Febi Armonici” (Concertmaster: E. Gatti. One CD for “Symphonia”, Facco’s “Serenata a seiz vozes”, SY94S27); “Albalonga” (Conductor: A. Cetrangolo. One CD for “Fonit Cetra”, Albinoni’s “Il Concilio dei Pianeti”, CDC115); “La Bande Des Hautbois du Roi” (two CDs for “Nuova Era”, one with music of Lully, Philidor, Pez, Krieger, the other one with music from two Lully’s suites, 7286,7331), and 2box cd for magazine “Amadeus”. As recorded with baroque orchestra “I Filarmonici” by Alberto Martini, a cd with music by J. F. Fasch, included for the magazine “Cd Classics”. All these releases are first world recordings.

His research interests focus on the art of castratoes and on the development of oboe from 1600 to 1800. Relating to these topics, he has also given lectures and published articles on specialised magazines (Aulos, 415). Giuseppe Nalin has written a handbook (translated in French, English and Japanese) on double-reeds making.

In addition to this, he is member of the editorial staff of the magazines “CD Classica”, “Audiophile Record” and “Orfeo”(the latter specialised in early music), interviewing important musicians and ensembles.

As reviewer, he has also worked for two years in the radio programme “Classica in Compact”, on Radio Rai 3 (National Italian Radio).

His activity comprises supervision and musical assistance in the recording and editing of many CDs. He has taken part as guest on the jury of the “Concorso Internazionale di Tortona” and with “Sans Souci” and “La Bande des Hautbois du Roi” has recorded for the National Egyptian Radio, the National Spanish Radio, the Capodistrian Radio and Radio RAI 3, Bayerische Runfunk, Vatican Radio, and  Radio Klara, (National Radio of Belgium).

Besides the concerts held in Italy, he has performed in the following countries: Sweden (Stockholm), England (London), Ireland (Dublin, Galway), France (Paris, Strasbourg, Collonges, Macot, Mont Duphine), Germany (Darmstad, Garmish-Partenchirke, Regensburg, Misslereüth, Potsdam, Nürnberg), Austria (Wien, Klagenfurt, Bogenhofen), Hungary (Budapest, Pècs, Eger) Spain (Madrid, Seville, Barcelona), Egypt (The Cairo City), Cechia (Prague), Belgium (Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges), Switzerland (Losanne, Basel, Bienne, Gland, Pampigny, Brissago) Tunisia (Chartaghena).

He is teacher of baroque and modern oboe.
